New finance option makes sculpture more accessible and affordable

Some people think of their cars as sculptures on wheels.

If you happen to be one of just three owners of a US$4.5 million 2013 Lamborghini Veneno — the world’s most expensive street-legal automobile — you may well have a sculptural point.

Whether it qualifies as art or not, it has two points in common with most quality sculptures. First, the Lambo example underlines the accepted wisdom that great art, and especially great sculpture, is expensive. Second, it reinforces the impression that quality sculpture is inaccessible to the person in the street. And that’s where you’d be wrong.

Leave aside the artistic merits of a car and a sculpture weighed against one another. Rather consider a new idea that makes quality sculpture not only much more available, but also much more affordable.

Consider this: Few people would consider buying a new car outright. Most of us at some point will take out a high-interest loan to purchase what is ultimately a deteriorating, depreciating, and costly to run and maintain liability, as opposed to an asset.

Quality sculpture, on the other hand, is an asset. It not only retains its beauty and artistic appeal for life, but in most cases, appreciates in financial value while paying daily dividends in joy to you and all who behold it.

Mainartery Studio and $50,000 credit

When you choose to buy through Mainartery Sculpture, you can gain access up to $50,000 in credit to purchase world-class work. Mainartery is part of a specialist art-financing network that is expanding the art and sculpture market to more first-time and younger buyers and collectors.

You can buy or commission our own sculptures which we display on rotation through prime spaces around Melbourne’s CBD. Or we can supply you with bespoke pieces by other leading Australian and international artists. Our selection of available works caters to a variety of styles and budgets.

One aspect of sculpture ownership through Mainartery doesn’t vary — the delight we deliver to designers, collectors, and buyers and the intense connection they feel with the work.

Simple, interest-free finance facility

The finance facility we make available couldn’t be simpler. Instead of an outright purchase, which in the case of fine sculpture could be valued at tens of thousands of dollars, or more, our credit scheme lets you spread your payments. Once you’ve registered and completed some basic income and identity checks, the credit is available to use any time you like. You can make a single investment, or multiple art purchases up to the credit limit of $50,000.

You pay a 10 per cent deposit, followed by a further nine equal monthly instalments. As soon as the deposit is secured, the sculpture is yours.

Best of all, because our finance provider charges us, as the sculpture supplier, a small commission on the transaction, you as the buyer pay no interest on the loan.

A win for everybody

The scheme is a win for everybody. For a start, you as a buyer or collector gain access to more quality sculpture than before because the scheme boosts affordability. Instead of having to negotiate complex payment terms with us, you have a simple contract with our third party credit supplier.

We get paid quickly and reliably because our credit supplier is well established, reputable, and backed by other large financial institutions. And that means the artists are paid quicker too, giving them more security in a perilous creative world, and allowing them to get on with what they do best: creating beautiful works of art.

Blurred Lines as cinematic sculpture

In the 2017 US television art documentary Blurred Lines, critic Jerry Saltz quips: ‘Art is for anyone. It just isn’t for everyone.’ It’s a profound comment on art. It’s also fatuous.
